Description

The Australian Haydn Ensemble is an exciting newly-formed chamber group consisting of musicians dedicated to historically informed performance on period instruments. Their collaboration results in a powerful strength of tone and delicacy of execution, breathing vitality into works of the Classical and early Romantic Period. These talented artists aim to present creative programs, reigniting the personalities and life philosophies of early composers on the 21st century.

A most generous donation to the School’s Endowment for Performance Excellence by Canberra CBD Limited, has enabled the Australian Haydn Ensemble to be an ‘Ensemble-in-Residence’ in the School for 2014. As a result, the Australian Haydn Ensemble will be able to perform in Canberra on at least four separate occasions, giving not only concerts but also master classes and other outreach activities for the benefit of the City Centre area and the wider Canberra community.

The Australian Haydn Ensemble season ticket grants you access to all four concerts of the residency:

Haydn’s Surprise

March 13 7pm | Larry Sitsky Recital Room

Joined by special guest harpsichordist Stewart Smith, the program features chamber works from late 18th Century London including Salomon’s version of Haydn’s Surprise Symphony for flute and string quartet and Abel flute concerto performed by principal flautist of the Australian Brandenburg Orchestra and ensemble member Melissa Farrow.

Mozart’s Musical Joke

July 17 7pm | Drill Hall Gallery
